One of the youth leaders from my youth group in high school is now a missionary in Costa Rica. LaMar and JoAnna Salley are currently on furlough in the US for the next year but LaMar sent his peeps an email about the earthquake that hit Costa Rica:
Many of you may have heard that there was a major earthquake that rocked Costa Rica. There was only minor damge in the capital and all of our friends are OK. However, it measured 6.2 and was probably the worst that Costa Rica has experienced. For those of you who have come to Costa Rica on missions trips, the epicenter occurred around the La Paz Waterfall gardens. I know of 3 children who have died due to the quake. Many homes have been damaged or completely destroyed. Many are stranded due to landslides. Many are without water and power. The news clips we have seen online are simply unbelievable as mountainside roads that we have traveled are simply not there anymore as they have disappeared in landslides. Please pray for Costa Rica.

So your team drops you to pick up a dinosaur ... you get picked up by another team and go on to beat your old team in their own stadium in the final week of the season to seal your own playoff appearance.
I wonder how something like that feels.
I would call it "sweet justice."
I hope it feels good, Chad. You deserve to be in the playoffs.Labels: chad pennington

Hi everyone! Thanks you so much for dropping by our site this week. Whether you came here today because of the Christmas card we sent in the mail or because you randomly passed by our corner of the internet, we want to wish you and your family a very Happy and Merry Christmas!
This Christmas, we wanted to take some time and explain what it means to us to celebrate the birth of Christ. And also give you an update about our small and growing family.
More than $340 billion dollars is spent by Americans alone on a single holiday season. What if we spent less and gave more?
Example after example of how people can live and give of themselves are all around us. Linny is reading a book by Shane Claiborne, a Christ Follower who has done some amazing, radical things through his faith and is encouraging others also to live simply ... by giving more and living on less. Our family has chosen to celebrate a simpler Christmas than years past.
Really, we want to simply give. We believe wholeheartedly that we are blessed so that we may bless others. As Americans, we are among the world’s wealthiest 20% who possess 80% of the world’s total wealth. The ratio is all wrong, redistribution needs to happen ("Redistribution" is a word that's been given a negative connotation because of the political process this year ... but we believe it's true worship when it happens ... see Acts 2:42-47) We need to share what we have so that others will not go without.
Recently, we watched this video online explaining the Advent Conspiracy.
You can join in the movement. It began with a few churches and is rapidly growing.
Caedmon was born on October 3 and has made us smile everyday since.
He is the best baby we could ask for. Always smiling, cooing and looking around. He loves ceiling fans, lights and paintings. We have an African tribal painting on our living room wall that we got from Linny’s grandmother; Caedmon will stare at that for what seems like hours on end if we let him.
Recently, we moved from Tulsa to Ponca City. Dale works at a radio station in town. He works on promotions and does on air work as well.
In November, Linny started a new job at a church in Ponca City taking care of the babies of teen moms. She loves getting to know the moms and their babies, too.
Since Linny works in Day Care, Caedmon gets to go with her to school everyday. He is in Miss Bonnie and Miss Doris’ classroom, he’s the youngest in the room and they love him very much!
This year, we celebrated their 1st anniversary. We ate out at the Melting Pot. We had so much fun!
Matt and Lisa, Linny's brother and sister-in-law, announced that they are expecting their first child in June 2009. We are excited that Caedmon will have a cousin so soon! The news came as a huge surprise because we learned of Lisa's pregnancy while we were still in the hospital with Caedmon.
As we look forward to 2009, it's our hope and prayer that the love and grace immeasurably given to us through the miracle of Christ's birth will be with us and you year round.
Sign your email address up on the right to receive updates from us. Surprises are also on the way for our blogs in 2009 and we hope you will continue to come back to participate in the community we are building with them.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
